I just found out that Bill Walsh, architect of the 49er-style West Coast offense, has passed on. When I was younger, Joe Montana and Steve Young were my heroes, and me and the neighborhood kids used the West Coast strategy of short passes, slants and outs to dominate the game for some years. Even at that age we knew who Walsh was and how innovative his contributions were to the game of football.
So here's to Coach Walsh: best wishes wherever you are.
