1. Check out this ESPN article about sports fans trying to work some action at a distance to help out their teams. This reflects how people mistakenly and irrationally believe that they have some kind of influence over external events that don't directly involve them.

i had lunch with sudi today and it occured to us that neither one of us had heard a word from you since ... whenever that shindig was at sud's apt. the two of us have been buggering around the hospital knee deep in poo [the glories of the GI service...] so perhaps its more our fault than yours.
